“Everyone has a choice,” are the first words anyone—in this case, Moiraine (Rosamund Pike)—utters in the trailer for the second season of The Wheel of Time. “And every choice has a consequence.”
Many choices were made at the end of the Robert Jordan adaptation’s first season, and the consequences are only beginning to be clear. Moiraine has lost her connection to the One Power. Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski) has gotten a terrible haircut and a new companion. Egwene (Madeleine Madden) and Nynaeve (Zoë Robins) have begun their training as Aes Sedai. Perrin (Marcus Rutherford) is spending more time with wolves. As for Mat (recast with Dónal Finn), well, he still looks troubled.
And a new threat has arrived—just in case the Dark One wasn’t enough.
Season two is expected to cover much of The Great Hunt, the second book in the Wheel of Time series, though elements from other books may crop up as well. The plot of that book centers on retrieving the stolen Horn of Valere, which can raise dead heroes. But Rand has a lot on his mind, having discovered that he is, in fact, the Dragon Reborn.
The dialogue here is about power and control (the distracting Halsey song is also, unsubtly, called “Control”) and survival—and the gang being separated and on their own paths, but wanting to help each other. But this is the Rand show: “You’re not a spoke, boy,” Siuan Sanche (a very tired looking Sophie Okenedo) tells him. “You are the water that turns the wheel itself.”
The wheel starts turning again September 1st on Prime Video.
